Working Conditions

Involves a full day of strenuous physical labor in the construction environment.

Apprenticeship Training Period

Five years of on the job training.

Related Instruction and Method

Two nights per week, usually September through June. Four hours per night (5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) Average of 156 hours per school year.

Qualifications

Must be 17 years old and have a high school diploma or GED, passing grade in Algebra, math or H.S. Regents Math. A transcript is required. Must have a valid New York State driver’s license and be a resident of jurisdiction for at least one year prior to the application date in Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans or Wyoming counties.

Probationary Period

None.

Tools

Cost varies. Apprentices must purchase their own hand tools.

Current Journeyman Rate

$33.20 per hour.
